At 5, 199 meters the highest mountain in Kenya is also Africa’s second highest mountain. Climbing it is no `push-over’’ but it represents a greater challenge than Mount Kilimanjaro.


At this high elevation the scenery of forest moorland and glaciers is spectacular. As you trek you will meet with colobus monkey, elephant or buffalo. This walk takes you up the mountain via the Sirimon route with unforgettable scenes of the diverse vegetation.

You will also touch ice and snow on the equator!

Day 1: Nairobi-Nanyuki

Pick you from the airport and drive to the city centre for your breakfast .Later depart from Nairobi and drive via the central part of Kenya to Nanyuki town arriving in time for lunch. Afternoon acclimatization walk to the line of Equator. Dinner and overnight at the Ibis hotel- 1950m Elevation.

Day 2: Park Gate-Sirimoni

Leave from the hotel at 8.30AM and with a 4WD drive to the Sirimon park gate which is about 30min drive and at the altitude of 2650m.After finishing with the park formalities the hike start first through the tropical rainforest which used to be the hideout area for the Kenyan freedom fighters, so you will learn alot about different types of trees which they were using for different purposes. Also its the home forelephants, buffalos, antelopes and birds. Before getting to the hygenia zone all the way upto Old Moses hut 3300m. DITANCE 9KM, TIME 3-4HRS.

Day 3: Old Moses-Mackinders Camp

After breakfast leave from the hut at 7AM and hike through the moorland part of the mountain where you learn and see alot about the high altitude flowers, birds and the famous small animal which is related to the family of elephant (ROCK HYLAX).Going up and down the mackinders valley to shipton hut 4200M. The distance covered is 14 KM and time taken is 6-7 hours Hike, depending with your interest on nature. Picnic lunch on the way, dinner and overnight in the hut.

Day 4: Mackinders Camp-Point Lenana

Wake up at around 3AM in the morning and after a pre-breakfast of tea and some cookies start for the summit Pt.Lenana 4985M which is the 3rd highest peak of Mt.Kenya after Batian and Nelion peaks, timing ourselves to get there in time for sunrise, at around 6.25AM.Later descend down via most scenic valley in Mt.Kenya ,Gorges valley down the chogoria route to Mintos camp for your full breakfast, and them descend further down to Meru Mt.Kenya Lodge 2950M.Dinner and overnight at lodge.

Day 5: Mintos Camp-Base-NAIROBI

Depart from the camp after breakfast descend down through the bamboo forest for 10KM where you connect your jeep to chogoria town for lunch and later take your transfer back to Nairobi where the trip ends.

Mt. Kilimanjaro at 5, 5895 meters is the undisputed summit in all Africa! It can be climbed anytime of the year, but expect a lot of rains during April, May and November.

Day 1: Arusha

On arrival you will be met by one of our airport representative and transferred to Naura Springs Hotel where you will meet the Mountain crew and preparing for the climb. You will have the opportunity to go over any last minute questions, have the crew check your gear. At this point you will also have the chance to leave a bag behind with anything you don’t need on the mountain. Your left-behind gear will be secured at the Hotel and will meet you as soon as you come down off the mountain. Overnight; Naura Springs Hotel or Similar on (B)

Day 2: Naura Springs Hotel to Marangu Gate- Elevation 1800M (5,905 Ft) to Mandara hut 2750M (9,021 ft)

Our representative will pick you from your hotel to Marangu gate where your permit for trekking will be issued. Gate formalities take about 30 minutes and then start trekking after introduction to your porters from Chief guide. The route begins at the National Park Marangu Gate at 1800 m, walk through the fascinating rain forest to the Mandara Hut at 2750 m.

Day 3: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut – Mandara hut 2750M (9,021 ft) to Horombo 3780 (12,400 ft) Km/miles of walking 7km ( 4.43 Miles) Time taken 5 to 6 hrs.

After breakfast we ascend through rolling alpine meadows containing giant Heather trees. Along this leisurely trail we can enjoy the flora and views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. A packed lunch is served on the way to Horombo Hut (3780m ASL). Finally, dinner and overnight is taken at Horombo Hut.

Day 4: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut – Horombo 3780M (12,285 ft) to Kibo 4,700M (15,420 ft) Km/Miles of walking 12 Km (7.50 miles) Time taken 5 to 6 Hrs.

After a good night’s rest we continue past the cactus-like ground cover and the “last water” stream and moves onto the lunar landscape on the saddle between Kibo and Mawenzi Kibo Hut at 4700m.

Day 5: Kibo Hut to the Summit and down to Horombo Hut – Kibo 4,700M (15,420 ft) to Summit 5,895M (19,340 ft) back to Horombo 3780 (12,285 ft) Km/miles of walking 10 km (6 miles) Time taken 14 to 16 hrs.

The start for the summit is made in the early hours of the morning in order to reach Gillman Points – (5680 m) before dawn. From Gillman point, one can witness the most spectacular and unforgettable sunrise. One hour walk away is the highest point of Africa, Uhuru Peak at 5895m. The descent is less tiring and the night is spent at Horombo Hut.

Day 6: Horombo to Marangu gate – Horombo hut 3780M (12,285 ft) to Marangu gate 1800M (5,850 ft) Km/miles of walking 4 km (2.5 miles) Ascend and 14 Km descend (8.75 miles) Time taken 5 to 7 Hrs.

Another half day’s leisurely walk and one is back at the Park entrance again where you will meet with our gate representative and drive you back to Arusha Naura Springs Hotel for rest to get ready for the next day program. The overall height difference between Marangu Gate, National Park entrance and the summit of Uhuru peak is 4100 meters (13,450 ft) and the distance is 32 km (20 miles). Each way In all a good 64 km (40 miles) trek with the bonus of an ascent of one of the worlds finest 5000 meter peaks

Day One: Arusha

Day Two: Rongai Camp

Altitude: 6,396′ to 8,530′; Hiking time: 3 hours. Register at the Marangu park gate and transfer by four wheel car (approximately two and a half hours) to the Rongai trailhead. Meet your climbing staff and begin hiking from the village of Nale Moru. The small winding path crosses maize fields before entering pine forest, and then climbs gently through a forest sheltering a variety of wildlife, including the Kilimanjaro Colobus monkey. Our campsite is on the edge of the moorland zone with expansive views of the Kenyan plains.

Day Three: Kikelewa Caves- Kikelewa Caves Altitude: 8,530′ to 11,320′; Hiking time: 6-7 hours.

Challenging ascent to the “Second Cave” where you will relax and take lunch with superb views of Kibo and the ice fields on the crater rim. After lunch proceed towards the jagged peaks of Mawenzi, where we camp in a sheltered valley near Kikelewa Caves.

Day Four: Mawenzi Tarn-

Altitude: 11,320′ to 14,210′; Hiking time: 3-4 hours. A short but steep climb up grassy slopes offers superb views of this wilderness area. The vegetation zone ends shortly before we reach our next camp at Mawenzi Tarn spectacularly situated beneath the towering spires of Mawenzi. Spend the afternoon acclimatizing and exploring the area.

Day Five: Kibo Campsite

Altitude: 14,210′ to 15,580′; Hiking time: 4-5 hours. We cross the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo to reach Kibo Campsite. The remainder of the day is spent resting in preparation for the final ascent.

Day Six: Final Ascent- Hombo Camp-

Altitude: 15,580′ to 18,650′ (Gillman’s Point) to 19,340′ (summit) then down to 12,200′; Hiking time: 12-16 hours. Begin the final, steepest and most difficult part of the ascent at 1:00am. Hike slowly on a switchback trail through loose volcanic scree to reach the crater rim at Gillman’s Point. Rest for a short time to enjoy the spectacular sunrise over Mawenzi. For those who feel strong enough, continue (3 hrs roundtrip) to Uhuru Peak passing close to spectacular glaciers and ice cliffs in the summit area. Descend to Kibo for lunch and a rest then continue down the Marangu route to our Horombo Camp.

Day Seven: Descent to Marangu

Altitude: 12,200′ to 6,250′; Hiking time: 5-6 hours. Descend steadily through the moorland, past Mandara Hut and through a lush rain forest to the Marangu park gate where you will be transferred to Arusha. Overnight; Naura Springs Hotel or Similar on (B)



Leave Nairobi for Arusha by shuttle bus arriving in the afternoon. The afternoon will be at leisure with accommodation in a budget hotel, you can use this opportunity for shopping and arranging your gear. Dinner and overnight in your hotel.


Morning transfer to Marangu gate then to Umbwe village for commencement of hike. Today it will be a 4 hour hike to the caves for dinner and overnight. The lava caves are at an elevation of 2800 metros above sea level.


After breakfast, continue ascent along sharp ridge, giving a distinct high mountain feeling, then unto the moorland and arrive in Barranco hut in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight will be served in Barranco hut at an elevation of 3,900 metres.


A four hours walk past enormous breach walls to camp at the foot of the Arrow glacier. In the afternoon you will acclimatize at 4,900 metres and watch the sunset behind Mt. Meru.


Through steep walls and scrambling up the screen and past the frozen lava on the tottering wall we will arrive to camp by the stunning crater rim of Kilimanjaro.


As usual you will start in the early morning to conquer the Uhuru peak at 5,896 metres and descend through Gilmans point and onto Kibo hut for dinner and overnight. Kibo hut is situated at an elevation of 3,761 metres.


After breakfast descend to the Marangu Park gate via Mandara hut and connect transport to Arusha for overnight.


After breakfast 0800hrs depart for Nairobi.
